About our club
Gold Crest Beach Volleyball was founded in 2025 by a Sonoma County local and beach volleyball enthusiast Frederick Maguire. He was inspired to start Gold Crest after receiving overwhelming community feedback requesting more opportunities for younger players to learn and grow their beach volleyball skills. The team practices 2–3 times a week at Ragle Ranch Park and Spring Hills Church’s sand volleyball facilities.
about coach frederick
Coach Fred is a Sonoma County local who fell in love with beach volleyball back in 2012 at Ragle Park. What started as a fun way to spend time with friends quickly turned into a lifelong passion. Over the past 12 years, he’s grown as both a player and a competitor — and more recently, as a coach.
Fred started coaching as an assistant for the Windsor High School girls varsity beach team, learning under longtime mentor and Ragle Beach Volleyball founder, Coach Mike Smith. In 2025, Fred stepped into the head coach role, excited to keep the program going strong and give back to the community that shaped him.
As a coach, Fred is all about encouraging players while helping them understand the “why” behind what they’re doing. He’s a student of the game and loves breaking down timing and movement in a way that makes sense for all levels — whether you’re brand new to beach volleyball or ready to level up your game. Gold Crest beach volleyball is the place to hone your skills and understanding of the game!
